Yorjander Capetillo Hernández wird 1982 in San Cristóbal, Kuba geboren und studiert in Havanna Bildende Kunst und Bühnenbild.
2014 werden auf der NordArt in Büdelsdorf erstmals Bilder von ihm in Deutschland ausgestellt, 2015 erhält er ein Stipendium für Malerei an der Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Dort konzentriert er sich auf zwei seiner grundlegenden Serien: “Monster of my Machinery” und “The Happiness Workshop”, in denen er nicht existierende Theaterstücke auf die Leinwand bringt und der Bühnenperformance Gestalt verleiht. Fiktive Charaktere und absurde Szenarien, artikuliert in suggestiver Atmosphäre, aber dennoch immer das Wesen des Menschen im Blick.
Yorjander Hernández ist ein Maler der Kontraste. Provokant und sensibel zugleich, bildgewaltig und dennoch leise, wird der Betrachter des Werkes mit der Ambivalenz der eigenen Gefühle konfrontiert. Die Figuren Hernández’ leben dort, wo das Alltägliche heilig und eine gewöhnliche Geste zum Ritual wird. 

Yorjander Capetillo Hernández was born in 1982 in San Cristóbal, Cuba, and studied Fine Arts and Set Design in Havana.
In 2014, his paintings were exhibited for the first time in Germany at NordArt in Büdelsdorf, and in 2015 he received a scholarship for painting at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. There, he focused on two of his fundamental series: “Monster of my Machinery” and “The Happiness Workshop,” in which he brings non-existent theater pieces to the canvas and gives form to stage performance. Fictional characters and absurd scenarios are articulated in a suggestive atmosphere, always keeping the essence of humanity in focus.
Yorjander Hernández is a painter of contrasts. Provocative yet sensitive, visually powerful yet quiet, the viewer of the work is confronted with the ambivalence of their own feelings. Hernández’s figures inhabit a space where the everyday is sacred, and an ordinary gesture becomes a ritual.
